The Hawaii Aloha Stadium is the largest multi-use facility located in the state. The stadium can seat up to 50,000 people and is made up of 104 acres. The upper seats of this stadium can reach the height of a ten story building. This open air stadium was officially opened in 1975. The first football game played here in the fall of 1975 was a match up between the University of Hawaii and Texas A&M. The attendance for that game alone filled over 32,000 seats. Since then, the stadium has been host to many football games which were sell outs.
This stadium is not only home to a large field and lots of seats. It is also has ample parking for the many events which are held here. To date the stadiums parking lot is home to 8,000 spaces for cars, 105 disabled parking spaces, and 150 spaces designated for buses. It is only 12 miles from this parking lot to Waikiki. This means that those traveling here from the city have a very short commute of approximately 20 minutes. The close proximity also means that those who do not want to bother with taking their own transportation to the stadium can easily catch a bus or shuttle from the city to the stadium.
Events Held at the Stadium
There are many events which take place at Aloha stadium each year. The most famous outside of the area is the regular season football games and the bowl games which are held here. The other sporting events which are held here annually include baseball and soccer events. Boxing matches are another sporting event held at the stadium.
